Ummmmm, what.
His nurse said we should really go. And that we can meet people. Like is there a home dialysis network of top secret special club members that Erik has to join? Is there a secret handshake? Will people say things like the first rule of dialysis club is you do not talk about dialysis club?
Ironically, today my friend suggested that we start a club. The purpose of the club was irrelevant - book club, movie club, t.v. show club, bridge club though we don't play bridge, whatever - the goal was simply to meet every other week and be able to tell our husbands and children that it was a very important club meeting. And then really just drink wine. I know her and she knows me and I'll tell you what a dialysis club is absolutely not what she had in mind.
So a dialysis patient dinner. Seriously. What does one even wear to this event? I tried to be all adult and serious about it and then I saw the invitation and it says wheelchairs will be provided at the door and this is where I couldn't hold back the commentary. Erik claims I was probably only invited for comic relief after the unfortunate note passing at the dialysis seminar incident of 2014.
I said no way, I'm not going to a dinner at the hospital where they will probably raffle off hand knit doilies to decorate your dialysis machine.
Then Erik said this: Think of all of the great material you will gather to share on your blog.
Fine, I'll go.
Erik went back to dialysis today. Until he starts at home it is just Monday through Friday. Last week was the first time that we both felt overwhelmed, at least at the same time. This week is a new week so hopefully everything we needed to know has already been thrown our way.
They are going to start some formal home training on Wednesday morning, so I will attend as well. Erik is all cocky about this because of course he feels the shortened time frame to start training (three days early) is in fact related to his superior learning skills. Either that or they are dying to get me out of there.
