Erik is going to start his dialysis sooner than we had hoped. He has a meeting with the surgeon on April 14th to do something or talk about something. I get my information from him, you know, so naturally I deal with the lack of details with grace and a positive attitude. At that visit his surgery will be scheduled for either April 18th or April 21st. Or some day around there. It's cool. I'm a go with the flow kind of girl. My retinas are burning re-reading that sentence.
Initially we were told that he would take a few weeks to heal after the surgery, then start a few week training process, then actually start home dialysis. In light of his worsening symptoms he will start inpatient dialysis for a whole week immediately following the surgery. They can also conduct the training during that time and hopefully after that week he can be released to home dialysis.
We did learn that there is no need for me to prick Erik with an IV needle for daily dialysis with the option we have chosen. One of us was thrilled. The other a little sad not to have that has an option. Or a threat.
Erik and Jack are still traveling to Dallas for the final 4 basketball games this weekend. I'm not fully on board with this but sometimes I do actually do a good job of keeping my opinions to myself. Don't get too excited. It doesn't happen often. Sitting on a plane, sitting at some games, limited walking, he can do all of this just fine. I considered going in his place but realized that Jack would lose his mind when I asked what inning we were in. Stuff like that. It will be a great vacation for the two of them before we are homebound for a while.
Our trip at the end of the month is cancelled. That's ok...it was over 60 degrees the last two days, I am certainly capable of making myself a pina colada, and I can find all of the massage spas in a 10 mile radius with a blindfold on. I'll host my own little spring staycation.
So….
Surgeon appointment April 14th
Transplant Evaluation April 16th
Surgery April 18th or 21st or whatever day they decide on a whim
Week of April 21st inpatient dialysis
After that figuring out how to make this home dialysis thing work for us and me getting comfortable leaving the house again
