An easter egg for me, a port for you

While everyone else is decorating easter eggs and calling reeses peanut butter eggs breakfast (and let's be honest, lunch & dinner too) Erik will be getting a port in his basket.

Erik met with the surgeon on Monday for what, I don't know, port measurement or something like that and to get scheduled for surgery.  He was given a surgery date of May 8th.  Yes, May.  As in next month.  One of us is nicer than the other and didn't say anything and dutifully documented his surgery date.  The other one of us, who is not as nice, threw a fit.  I have done my research people, and another delay in starting dialysis was not acceptable.  I suggested that Erik call back and confirm that they understood the ramifications of, oh, you know, living with kidney failure.  It turns out that the dialysis clinic agreed with me and a nice lady from the clinic did our dirty work.

Translation:  I can save my verbal shake down for another time.

When Erik told me the nice lady was trying to get the surgeon to schedule him for this Friday I did in fact encounter an internal dilemma:  get this guy some help and get him started on dialysis OR quietly accept the May 8th date so as not to endure the trauma associated with rescheduling my Friday hair appointment.  Grey Roots.  Enough said.

The nice lady at the clinic took charge and got him a coveted spot on the old surgery list for this Saturday.  And really, if your wife was going to be sitting around in a waiting room all day wouldn't you want her to have nice hair?

So, outpatient surgery on Saturday and he'll come home with a shiny new dialysis port for Easter.  In patient dialysis and training starting Monday - all day, every day, for at least a week.

Erik had his all day transplant evaluation today, and it's still going on.  They will analyze his situation, ability to undergo a transplant etc. and discuss it at a little transplant summit.  I don't know when this meeting takes place but I have accepted that it means more waiting.  If they agree that he is an appropriate candidate for transplant then he will finally be formally on the list.

I have a feeling this party is just getting started.
